The band derives its name from the consolidation of a network of independent railway systems that operated in the Southeastern states of the Carolinas and Virginia known as the “Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company”. Like the railroad, Coastline was formed from a network of independent musicians that play as various combinations in the Tidewater Area of Virginia. Their friendships within the Bluegrass community are as treasured as the music they make. They share a passion for the music whether it's traditional Bluegrass or "new" grass, novelty songs or gospel. The joy of playing is at the heart of the group. The ensemble of frontman Travis Holloway, on the "dobro"; Kurt Hobbs, on the mandolin; Larry Trimyer, on the 5-string Banjo; Vance Williams, on the Doghouse Bass; O.C. Stickland and Soames Newsome, on Guitar; delivers a performance that is easy to recognize as a good time.
